The Seattle Fire Department evacuated some buildings in South Lake Union due to a natural-gas leak from a broken pipe.

Emergency crews responded to the leak at 219 Terry Avenue North about 7:30 a.m. The leak was stopped about 8:20 a.m. and crews were checking buildings for trapped gas.

Seattle Fire Battalion Chief Mike Sharp said the leak was “very large,” but also “a lot to do about nothing” because the gas was easily dissipating. He said he did not know how the gas line broke.
