South Lake Union rats tough to evict

Near Minor Avenue North and Harrison Street in South Lake Union, rats have taken over a fenced in section of hill, not far from Eden Johnson’s home.

“It is like a sightseeing thing, people go by and they stop and watch the rats. It is really gross,” said Johnson. “We’re in the city what are you going to do?”

In this section of the city, there is a proposal to build on the land where the rodents have made themselves at home. Gussie Charles lives nearby and is worried about where her unwanted neighbors will go next.

“So long as they keep their distance, I am cool,” said Charles. “It’s their neighborhood. They are not afraid of people.”
