Bartell Drugs readies new South Lake Union store;
in-store and neighborhood festivities kickoff August 2

“South Lake Union Growlers” (S.L.U.G.) to-go,
pet-friendly features and merchandise mix tailored to
neighborhood needs

SEATTLE-Seattle-based Bartell Drugs
<http://www.bartelldrugs.com/> opens its 61st location
this Friday (August 2) with a new store in Seattle’s
vibrant South Lake Union neighborhood. The grand
opening showcases all-new features with a two-week
schedule of special events, in-store and neighborhood
activities, and a ribbon-cutting at noon on Tuesday,
August 6.

Located at 1001 Mercer Street (corner of Terry and
Mercer), the 11,600 square-foot store spotlights
innovative features and a merchandise mix tailored to
serve the needs of employees and residents in the
neighborhood.

Bartells unveils “South Lake Union Growlers”
(S.L.U.G.), with take-out of half-gallon glass
“growler” jugs of fresh beer and ales from a selection
of six rotating taps. The store will also boast “99
beers”-a selection of bottled beers in 99 different
package configurations. These new beverage features
compliment a selection of Northwest wines and premium
liquors.

With a nod to pet-friendly policies of employers in the
neighborhood, including Amazon, the new location will
provide water bowls and complimentary dog biscuits,
with pet “hitching posts” added soon. Expanded
offerings of pet-related products will be spotlighted
at this store.

From August 2-16, numerous vendors are participating in
90 hours of product sampling and demonstrations,
highlighted by the 16-seat, peddle-powered “Hydration
Station” roaming the neighborhood with beverage samples
August 5, 7 and 8. For a complete schedule of samplings
and demonstrations, visit www.bartelldrugs.com.

In conjunction with the opening, Bartell Drugs is
sponsoring the “Cinema on the Lawn” August 9, one of
the featured attractions at the South Lake Union Block
Party.

The store’s merchandise mix includes expanded line-ups
of water enhancements and energy and nutrition bars,  a
wide selection of locally-produced and organic
products,  Bartell’s signature “Urban Market,” “Sweets
and Snacks” and “Beauty” sections, and a full-service
pharmacy, which will host free or discounted health
screening services on August 16.

Store hours during the opening are Mon.-Fri., 6 am – 9
pm; Saturday, 8 am – 7 pm; Sunday 9 am – 6 pm. Pharmacy
hours are Mon.-Fri., 8 am – 8 pm; Saturday 9 am – 6 pm;
and Sunday 10 am – 6 pm.
The new store marks a “return” of Bartells to the
neighborhood. In 1914, founder George H. Bartell, Sr.
established Bartell Drugs’ headquarters nearby on Boren
Avenue. It served as the company’s headquarters until
1985.
