The tower is right across from an Amazon building-in-progress

Already topped out in the South Lake Union area, the McKenzie is a 40-story tower, designed by Graphite Design Group and developed by Clise Properties.

From the outside, the building is visually distinctive; it’s elliptical, and when completed, it will include a large, steel spire extending beyond the height of the building.

This is the first residential project in decades for Clise Properties, which typically develops commercial property. Al Clise—the fourth Clise to run the company—told us that the last one was the Shorewood Apartments on Mercer Island, built in 1949.

Let’s take a look at some of the more common issues our city dwelling companions face.

After drivers endure gridlocked crossings on Seattle’s Mercer Street, they’ll see one more set of traffic lights to pass before finally getting the opportunity to merge into Interstate 5.

Ramp-metering signals will be installed at the northbound and southbound freeway entrances, to operate weekends only starting March 10 — and then every day beginning April 10.

The $250,000 project is meant to even the flow at which cars enter the crowded freeway, so merging becomes easier, and people driving on I-5 slam their brakes less often.

Nollie’s Cafe, now in its 10th year, has stood the test of time in this fast-changing Seattle neighborhood, serving up comfort, consistency and care for its neighborhood.

One of the first things you’ll notice upon entering Nollie’s Cafe is how very different it feels from its shiny new neighbors nearby. A mix of eclectic décor fills the space, as if collected over the years: Toy animal figurines watch customers from the front counter; an electric fireplace hangs on the wall; pastry labels, written in colorful marker, tell eaters which cookies are chocolate chip and which, rather, are peanut butter.
